ADHD Symptoms in Adults
Since completing his master’s degree in clinical psychology, Joshua Dietz has taught psychology and human development at several universities, including Medgar Evers and St. Frances College. As a counselor and therapist, Joshua Dietz supports his clients with attention deficit disorders with and without hyperactivity (ADHD) in managing their daily lives.
While many people diagnosed with ADHD as a child will outgrow the condition, more than half will continue to experience symptoms into adulthood. There are also many adults who live with ADHD but were never formally diagnosed. Since adults have different responsibilities and expectations than children, ADHD symptoms in older people can manifest differently.
For example, while children with ADHD may have difficulty following directions at school, adults with ADHD may have similar workplace issues. Adult ADHD can also impact the length and quality of intimate relationships. Impulsivity may appear in adults as poor time management, overspending, and negative habits such as smoking or overdrinking. With medication, counseling, and techniques for managing their time and energy, adults living with ADHD can lead fulfilling and productive lives.
